 FAST FACTS:  GCS EDUCATION FOUNDATION

"BEYOND THE BASICS"

Overview and Purpose

We strive to go beyond the basics provided to public schools via govenment funding so our students will be college and career ready, and successfully equipped in a global society.

We believe

  • Public education is essential to the well-being of our community.
  • We must serve as ambassadors within our community, advocating for the school system, providing for an exchange of ideas, and communicating for support to the community at-large.
  • Every child should have access to rich educational experiences.

History

In 1996 by a group of private citizens, working closely with the Greeneville City Board of Education and the Greeneville City School System administration, established the Greeneville City Schools Foundation.   The Greenville City Schools Foundation was then chartered as a 501(c)3, community-based organization.  Over twenty members of the Greeneville community sit on the Board of Trustees, serving to guide the course of the organization.

In 2008, the Trustees voted to operate as the Greeneville City Schools (GCS) Education Foundation.   The GCS Education Foundation seeks private sector donations, which allow the GCS Education Foundation to assist in providing new, cutting-edge programs, equipment, and facilities for the teachers and students of the Greeneville City School System.
