Greeneville City Schools’ Energy Conservation Success Results In National ENERGY STAR Recognition.

Greeneville, Tennessee – January 10, 2013 –Greeneville City Schoolsannounced today that it has been named an Energy Star Leader by the federal government’s ENERGY STAR Program. This prestigious recognition is presented to the most energy efficient school districts in the country. Greeneville City Schoolswas recognized because it has accomplished energy efficiency improvements district-wide placing it in the top 25% of school districts for energy conservation savings.
“We are extremely pleased to receive this recognition from ENERGY STAR,” said Melanie Williams, Energy Education Specialist. “Our energy conservation efforts are saving taxpayer dollars while also helping protect our local environment. Since our district began partnering with Cenergistic on a serious energy conservation program we have made a positive impact on the environment, equal to taking 474 cars off the street or planting 67,504 trees in our community. Everyone in our school system has been working hard to make this program a success; our maintenance department, custodians, teachers, and students have all done their part to conserve energy in the schools. We are proud that our energy saving success is being recognized by ENERGY STAR. Greeneville City Schools is only the 3rd district in the state to earn this recognition, and we are the only district in the state who has earned ENERGY STAR certification for all eligible facilities so this is a huge accomplishment. ”
The cost of utilities is the second largest budget line-item for Greeneville City Schools, and the prices for electricity, natural gas, and water have been steadily increasing. To combat these rising energy and utility costs, the district entered into a partnership with Cenergistic, to implement a comprehensive energy conservation and management program throughout all its buildings and campuses. Since the program was first implemented, Greeneville City Schools has saved over 21% on its energy and utility costs.
