Additionally, Greeneville City Schools (GCS) was ranked #1 for the following categories: Best Places to Teach in Tennessee and Kingsport Area, Best School Districts for Athletes in Kingsport Area, Best Teachers in the Kingsport Area. GCS was ranked #506 of 10,772 in the Best School Districts in America ranking, and #4 of 127 in the Best School Districts in Tennessee.
Twelve high school students from across the Appalachian Region participated in a pitch competition as a part of the Appalachian Entrepreneurship Academy (AEA), a competitive, 12-month, free, blended learning curriculum program featuring working modules led by regional experts in business planning, market analysis, product development and other entrepreneurial services. As part of the program, students participate in a 4-week summer intensive online training, continue training over the academic year, and meet in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, for a final capstone pitch event in July 2021. This year the winning three-person team, Team Refill Vibes, included Greeneville High School (GHS) student Caedmon Oakes.
Greeneville City Schools (GCS) was named the top school district in America to purchase an affordable home by Finder.com. GCS and Maryville City Schools were the only districts to be recognized in Tennessee.
The Tennessee Commissioner of Education, Dr. Penny Schwinn, visited Tusculum View Elementary on Oct. 28, 2020, along with her assistant, Emma McCallie and the Northeast Regional Center of Regional Excellence (CORE) Director, Dr. Jami Corwin.
