Tennessee Consolidated Retirement System (TCRS) provides retirement coverage to the full time employees of Greeneville City Schools.  This site provides information for current employees and/or retired members of TCRS.

Pension & 401 K Plans

Employees in Education have several options for retirement plans.  The Pension plan is through TCRS and the 401K plan is through Empower. Both plans are available through RetireReady Tennessee.  Employees are classified as either a Legacy employee or a Hybrid employee.  If you were employed in education before 7/1/14, you are Legacy.  If you were employed in education after 7/1/14, you are Hybrid. 

Important - Hybrid employees are auto enrolled in the 401K at a 2% contribution.  Upon hire, you will receive a letter mailed to your home from Empower Retirement.  It is very important to read this letter.  You must take action when receiving this letter if you wish to change this contribution rate. 

If you are a Legacy employee you would have received a letter from Empower back in 2014 and will not receive another letter when hired with another school system - you still have the option to contribute (see below for further information).  Non-Certified employees new to education are also eligible and will receive information from Empower.   

RetireReady Tennessee is the financial wellness initiative to ensure that all State employees, teachers, employees of higher education, local government participants, and retirees can easily gain access to informational and educational resources regarding their retirement.

Visit RetireReadyTN.gov,where participants can gain access to plan balances, a meeting scheduler, educational materials, and a helpful dashboard for employees to track their retirement savings progress. 

TCRS now also has a brand new customer service call center with expanded hours to help answer your questions. You can reach the call center at 1-800-922-7772 from 8:00 AM to 7:00 PM CST.

Members are fully vested after 5 years of employment through TCRS and immediately through the 401(k) plan.


Closed Plan
Teachers hired prior to July 1, 2014 are in the Closed Plan, and contribute 5% of salary to their defined benefit plan. Teachers can now contribute to the state 401(k) plan. Members are fully vested after 5 years of employment through TCRS and immediately through the 401(k) plan.
