Hello GCS Families and Staff,

This is Steve Starnes, Director of Greeneville City Schools. I hope everyone is staying well and practicing social distancing to slow the spread of the Coronavirus. I am reaching out to you this afternoon to provide updates to our plans moving forward. We will continue to serve students and families in multiple ways during this time.

As you may have heard by now, Governor Bill Lee has recommended the closure of all schools through April 24. Greeneville City Schools will follow this recommendation and remain closed through April 24.

Also, the TN Secondary School Athletic Association issued the following statement.

Consistent with the Governor’s statement, and in the interest of the health and safety of competitors, coaches, officials, and spectators, we urge every member school – both public and independent – to continue to follow the Governor’s recommendation and suspend interscholastic athletics through April 24, 2020. This suspension should include games, scrimmages, practices, and organized workouts or conditioning.

Greeneville City Schools will be following the recommendation of the TSSAA and suspending all middle school and high school athletic activity through April 24.

Principals, Assistant principals, district staff, and the IT Team have been hard at work this week making sure that grades 3-12 students, teachers, and staff have access to a device and internet connectivity. This is in anticipation of beginning online learning next week after we have exhausted our stockpile inclement weather days. If you do not have access to a device, if you do not have internet access, or if you need a charger or have other technology needs, please call your school office or the central office at 787-8000 to let us know of your need. More information regarding computers for students in grades K-2 will be coming next week. Please check your school website for information on how to access student launchpad from any device. Also, please remember to read daily for a minimum of 30 minutes with your child.

Report card finalization has been postponed at this time.  High School grades will be finalized and reported in PowerSchool by April 3rd.  Middle School and Elementary School report card release times will be communicated next week.

All students in grades 3-12 have full access to all district provided computer programs on the Launchpad. Please ask your students to show you how to access their Launchpad and encourage them to use the programs for learning and enrichment activities.  More information will be posted on both the district and school websites by Friday evening with step by step instructions on how to access the Launchpad.  We also encourage students to check their Greeneville City School’s email daily for updates from their teachers.  Directions for checking student emails will also be posted on school websites.

We encourage all elementary and middle school students to continue learning next week using the programs on their Launchpad’s. Weekly lessons and learning activities will be posted on elementary and middle school websites each week on Friday, beginning April 3rd.

High School teachers will begin contacting students through their school emails with online instructional tools and opportunities beginning on April 1st

There will be no TNReady testing this year at any grade level.

Please contact individual schools if you have questions or call the central office at 787-8000.

Our feeding program will continue next week. Please check the GCS website at www.gcschools.net for more information.

Please know that we are here to support you and your students. We have amazing teachers and school staff who are prepared to continue learning in this new environment.  Stay safe and check your school and district websites on a regular basis for the most updated information.
