TOPS@Greeneville K-12 Virtual School Launches for 2021-2022 School Year

Greeneville City Schools (GCS) and Bristol Tennessee City Schools (BTCS), both high-performing school districts, have entered a partnership to provide a full K-12 online learning experience through Tennessee Online Public Schools (TOPS). TOPS is a three-time Reward School in the state of Tennessee and in 2012 began providing a quality high school program state-wide.

Through this unique partnership, TOPS will expand in the 2021-2022 school year to offer the same exceptional level of online education for elementary and middle school students. At the elementary level, TOPS@Greeneville is collaborating with the Early Childhood Education Department at East Tennessee State University for continued research and application of best practices in online learning for younger students.

TOPS offers greater flexibility and more student voice and choice than traditional learning experiences. Furthermore, students attending TOPS can cultivate relationships with certified and highly qualified teachers, unlike other impersonal, online programs that have appeared across the country since the pandemic. The quality instruction offered is designed to prepare students for life by providing the best environment for both teacher-led and self-paced work. TOPS provides a flexible schedule for students who may wish to pursue athletics, extracurricular, or career work while maintaining academic interests and successes.

How to apply to TOPS@Greeneville?

All GCS students who enroll in TOPS@Greeneville will remain students in Greeneville City Schools. Students in grades K-5 will have a full-time teacher at each grade level who will be dedicated solely to providing not only engaging instruction but also the additional level of support needed for younger learners to succeed in the online learning environment. Middle and high school students enrolled in TOPS@Greeneville who reside within the boundaries of Greene County will be able to participate in sports and extracurricular programs at Greeneville Middle School and Greeneville High School.

Application for the TOPS program is now open for students in grades K-12. To apply to be an online student through the TOPS program for the 2021-2022 school year or for more information, visit https://tops.education/applynow . Parents who submitted the virtual learning interest survey must still complete the enrollment process. The registration fee will be waived for Greeneville City Schools students by using the code Waiver2021. In order to allow time for student scheduling and staffing decisions, the priority application deadline is June 4, 2021. A limited number of students will be accepted; therefore, priority registration is strongly encouraged. If you have questions, please contact Dr. Suzanne Bryant [email protected], 423-787-8000.
